Orange Simple Syrup is the perfect sweetener for cocktails that need an orange flavor boost. Just a little added to your bar drinks will take your drink form just okay to outstanding!
Not too long ago I was at the grocery store and came across a bottle of Orange Simple Syrup. It was in the cutest little 4 oz bottle and I was tempted to buy it until I saw the price was $6.99. I reluctantly passed it by, but couldn’t get the idea of the flavored syrup out of my mind. Anyway I did some research and found that I could make my own, in almost any flavor I could imagine.
After a little trial and error (meaning scorched pans, some screaming and awful, horrid tasting syrup) I discovered that using orange juice and sugar made the smoothest and best tasting orange simple syrup. Let me show you how I did it.
Making Orange Simple Syrup really could not be easier. This recipe I used actually has 3 ingredients but I forgot to take a photo of the Triple Sec. And No… I was not over sampling the Triple Sec while I made this! Here is what you will need to get started.
Ingredients Need for Orange Simple Syrup
- 3 cups orange juice, no pulp
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 TBSP Triple Sec (optional )
Pour the orange juice and the sugar into a saucepan over medium-high and stir to blend. Bring to a boil, stirring often so the sugar does not stick to the bottom of the pot and create a burned-on mess that will take a chisel to remove. I know this from very painful experience.
Once the mixture starts to boil, reduce the heat to medium and cook until the liquid has reduced to about 1 cup. Keep stirring around often. The color will really start to darken as this happens. Remove from the heat and admire your work!
When the syrup has reduced, it will have a lovely caramel color. Do not be tempted to stick your finger in the pot to taste it…it is really hot! Let the syrup cool and then transfer to a covered jar to get cold in the fridge. Feel free to now scrape the pot with a spoon or your finger (my method) and taste that orange deliciousness. Orange Simple Syrup will stay perfectly fine in the fridge for about a week, but I bet that it will be gone long before that!

Hi Teresa. This recipe was made with purchased orange juice – the kind with no pulp so the simple syrup will be smooth. I’ve made it with fresh squeezed, but didn’t notice any difference in the flavor so now I skip that step too. ?Let me know how yours turns out!
Hi, thanks for this. I was just introduced to a caramelized orange coffee latte and I’ve been looking for ways to make it at home. Did you make this with purchased orange juice or fresh squeezed? It looks delicious, and I’m just hoping I can skip a step if possible, but will squeeze if I should. Thanks!
Hi Indah, you are so right! I don’t think I am ever going to use plain sugar again…this makes everything have a much more interesting flavor! Thanks for stopping by…it’s always a pleasure:)
I love it. It will be perfect for fruit cocktails and more. Thanks for sharing it, Christine..#OMHGWW
