Lemon Glaze Icing Recipe is super simple to make and only needs three ingredients. It’s the perfect finishing touch on cakes, cookies and more!
Adding icing to your baked goods can turn a basic dessert into something amazing. Sometimes just a drizzle of icing is all you need. This simple lemon icing recipe can be made in less than a minute and adds just the right amount of sweetness to offset the lemon. The recipe is so easy and basic it has become my go-to glaze for Glazed Lemon Pound Cake and makes a great finishing touch.
This icing recipe is just so simple. Powdered sugar, lemon juice and salt are all you need to make a homemade icing. While the ingredients are like those for a glaze, this recipe makes an icing that is thick but can be poured.
Reasons to enjoy this lemon glaze icing recipe
- It’s easy to make in just minutes!
- Versatile – perfect finishing touch for cakes, cupcakes, cookies and more.
- Foolproof – just adjust the sugar and lemon juice for a thicker or thinner icing. For even more lemon flavor, add in zest from the lemon.
Flavor variations for icing glaze
There are so many wonderful flavors to use to make glaze. Some that I have used are:
- Orange Glaze – replace the lemon juice with fresh squeezed orange juice and use a little orange zest for more orange flavor.
- Lime Glaze – just like the orange glaze, substitute lime for the lemon ingredients. Perfectly delicious with any coconut baked goods!
- Pineapple Glaze – use pineapple juice mixed with confectioners sugar. The flavor is not intense, but it is tasty!
I love this 4 Cup Glass Measuring Cup from Amazon. It’s my favorite way to measure, stir and pour from the same cup!
Tips for making the best Lemon Glaze Icing Recipe:
- Use fresh squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor and results. Bottled lemon juice will do in a pinch, but it is missing the bright, fresh flavor of fresh lemons.
- To keep the icing in place, pour the icing on completely cooled baked surface
- Allow the icing to set for a few minutes before serving
TROUBLESHOOTING LEMON GLAZE
- If your glaze is too watery, you have too little confectioners or powdered sugar. How it was measured can make all the difference. Whether the confectioners sugar was packed or sifted can make a big difference in the actual amount of sugar in the glaze. 1 cup of clumped or packed confectioners sugar is a very different measure than 1 cup of sifted or loosely packed sugar.
- To make your glaze taste more lemony, don’t add more lemon juice. The better choice is to use finely grated lemon zest to add a more prominent lemon punch to the glaze.
