An easy made-in-the-oven cheese spread appetizer with brie cheese and lingonberry jam that tastes just like cranberries.
If you have been looking for an easy, elegant appetizer, Baked Brie with Lingonberry Jam is one that everyone will love. The best part is how versatile it is – you can dress up the Brie with what you already have in the pantry.
I make this recipe several times a year, when I find Brie on sale at the grocery. It’s popular with the kids because Brie is a creamy and mild cheese, and the added jam doesn’t hurt either. They gobble it up, sometimes before it even hits the table. So spread a cracker or two for yourself before you serve it or you might not get any!
This time, I made it with some lingonberry jam that I bought at IKEA. I had no idea that lingonberries are a distant cousin to cranberries, and the taste is similar. Perfect for the holidays!
There are two camps when it comes to baked Brie. The first, who leave the top rind on the wheel, and the other who cuts it off. I like to cut the top off to put the toppings right on the cheese. The rind left on the sides makes a kind of bowl for the melted cheese and I find that it is less messy.
As you see, lingonberry jam looks very similar to canned cranberry sauce. It is both tart and sweet and totally delicious.
OTHER TASTY COMBINATIONS FOR BAKED BRIE
- Blueberry jam and sliced almonds
- Honey and walnuts
- Apricot jam and pistachios
- Chocolate and hazelnuts – serve with shortbread cookies!
HOW TO STORE LEFTOVER BAKED BRIE
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will keep for up to a week. The cold brie with nuts and jam will be hard to spread, so pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds or heat in the oven before trying to put on crackers or bread..
