WHAT’S A SLIDER?
The word Slyder was coined by Whitecastle as a name for their square, onion-steamed little beef burgers. They actually trademarked the spelling variation of “Slyder”. Slider is now used to describe small hamburgers or sandwiches made on a slider roll. These delicious little sandwiches can be served as appetizers, snacks or as the main dish.
HOW TO MAKE BACON CHEESEBURGER SLIDERS
These little burgers could not be more simple to make. Use your oven to make both the bacon and beef, then add cheese and toppings. Easy, right?
Instructions:
- Start by preheating your oven to 400°. You will need 2 sheet pans and a rack insert (optional). Line one pan with foil.
- Lay bacon in a single layer on one of the foil lined baking sheet (with or without rack), making sure not to overlap.
- Spread the beef out in an even layer on the second pan, about 1/4 inch thick. . Sprinkle beef with salt and pepper.
- Place both pans in the oven and cook the bacon for 15 – 20 minutes until desired crispness. The beef will be well-done at 20 – 22 minutes. I usually pour off the beef fat at the halfway cooking point, then replace the pan in the oven to finish cooking. When done, remove the pans from the oven and set the bacon aside. You can see in the photo above that the beef will shrink during cooking so don’t worry if you think the burger will be too large for the buns.
- Place the bottom half of the slider buns on a baking sheet. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the beef into 12 even squares and put one square onto each bun bottom. Place cheese slices on top of the beef.
- Tear bacon slices in half and place both halves on top of the cheese on each slider. Put the pan back in the oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese. Remove the sliders from the oven and top with the other half of the bun.
- Top each burger with whatever condiments you like. We like to add a dollop of Zesty Rodeo Sauce – which is a simple mix of mayo and barbecue sauce, with a few shots of hot sauce added!
