Super crispy Homemade Tortilla Chips made in only 15 minutes and with two pantry ingredients!
Hot, fresh from the oven Homemade Tortilla Chips have to be about the BEST flavor in the world. It just does not get much better than that, except that these cost so little they are perfect for anyone watching their budget. Huge flavor and a small price, now that is something that every home cook can appreciate!! Perfect for your next Tex-Mex or Mexican Fiesta!!
To give you a price comparison, a bag of good tortilla chips is about $4 in Central Ohio. The tortilla chips I made started with a refrigerated package of 36 white corn tortilla that cost $2.39. Each tortilla makes 6 chips, for a total of 216 tortilla chips. Now, that is probably 3-4 times more than is in a bag. And BONUS – none of my fresh homemade chips are broken!
Making these super crispy chips takes about 15 minutes, and could not be easier. This is what you need to get started:
INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE HOMEMADE TORTILLA CHIPS
- White Corn Tortillas
- Vegetable Oil
- Kosher Salt
HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN TORTILLA CHIPS
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Remove 6 tortillas from the package. Re-seal the package to keep the remaining tortillas from drying out.
Using a brush, apply a light coat of oil to one side of the first tortilla. Lay oil side down on your work surface, and apply a light coat of oil to the other side of the tortilla. Lay a second tortilla on top of the first and brush the side facing up lightly with oil. (do not brush oil on two sides, the oil on the first tortilla will coat the underside of the second). Keep adding tortillas, brushing only the top side with oil until you have a stack of six tortillas.
Using a sharp knife, cut the tortillas into 6 wedges. Cut all the way thru. One stack will make 36 chips.
Lay the wedges out in a single layer on the baking sheet. Sprinkle with kosher salt.
Bake on the middle rack in a 350 degree oven for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are browned and the chips are dry.
Remove your Homemade Tortilla Chips from the baking sheet to a paper towel lined bowl or plate to serve.
Store in an airtight container.

Wow! I am going to try this! My family devours tortilla chips, but they love the ones we are served at a local Mexican restaurant, which have little or no salt. We actually buy some of their queso cheese sauce and a big bag of tortilla chips to take home after we have finished our meal.
